Cindy Klaassen

Cindy Kay Klaassen, 62, of Des Moines, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 4, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Friends may call on Friday, November 11, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Iles Funeral Home - Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3:00 p.m.

Burial will be at a later date.

Born on July 12, 1960, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Cindy was the daughter of Eldon and Anna Mae (Meyer) Klaassen. She grew up in Holland, Iowa and graduated from Grundy Center Community High School in 1978. Following graduation, she attended North Iowa Area Community College. After college she moved to Dallas, Texas for several years, and returned to Iowa in 2000, where she made a career as the Office Administrator at MHCSCPA in West Des Moines.

Cindy enjoyed cooking and was creative with her menus for family holidays and gatherings with friends. Playing cards, shopping, traveling, and having a craft beer or glass of wine were some of her favorite things. She especially enjoyed any time spent with family and friends, and a highlight every summer was a visit from her great nieces and great nephews.

Cindy is survived by her mother, Anna Mae Klaassen of Des Moines; her sisters, Lori (Sandy) McCrea of Weston, MO, and Joni Klaassen of Des Moines; step niece Ashley (Brendan) Sullivan and children Owen, Rory, Shane, Georgia and Marguerite; step niece Megan Leigh; an aunt, Wava Hemmen; and several cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Eldon Klaassen; her brother, Lance Klaassen; maternal grandparents, Marcus and Minnie Meyer; and paternal grandparents, Jacob and Tillie Klaassen.
