Krausman, Lewis earn small business award

Landmark Bistro and 319 Decor & Design shared a “Business of the Month” award for November 2022 from America’s SBDC Iowa.

Having started their own businesses within about one year of each other, mother-daughter duo Jill Krausman and Katie Lewis are major figures in the Grundy Center small business community.

Jill is the owner of The Landmark Bistro, a full-service restaurant in downtown Grundy Center. One of the most important aspects of small business ownership to her is using her unique position to give back to the community. She frequently donates her time and money to local hospitals and schools and works with a local theater to provide discounts for her clients, boosting the customer draw of both. The Landmark Bistro has been on Travel Iowa’s “99 Counties, 99 Restaurants” list, and Jill was listed as one of the Iowa Restaurant Association’s “40 Women to Watch in the Hospitality Industry”.

Just 250 feet away from the Landmark Bistro, Jill’s daughter, Katie, operates her own business. With a lifelong passion for interior design, Katie knew she wanted to work in the field but never thought she would open her own business. In 2017, freshly out of college, she decided to take the risk and jumped right in, starting her own interior design business called 319 Decor & Design. Just like her mother, Katie takes great pride in using her business to give back to the community. She is very involved in the Grundy Center Chamber-Main Street and helps plan all downtown events.
