Matthew Thompson
GRUNDY CENTER — Matthew David Thompson of Grundy Center died Saturday, Sept. 16 at home from a cardiac event.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral & Cremation Service in Grundy Center with a memorial service to follow immediately at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Matt was the son of Beth Thompson and the late Robert Thompson (CJ). He was born March 16, 1975. He grew up in Reinbeck and graduated with the Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School Class of 1993. He worked for Rural Water and most recently for Matt Waltman.
Matt loved nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and trapping but his favorite outdoor sport was fishing. He also participated in coon hunting and won many trophies for this sport. He loved dogs.
He had many during his lifetime. The two most recent were Lucy and Zena. They were an important part of his life.
Matt loved being with friends and family. He was always willing to lend a hand and give help whenever asked. He especially liked being on the farm and working with machinery. He was a fine woodcrafter and made many charcuterie boards, house signs, and other crafts from cedar, walnut, and oak.
Matt is survived by his mother, Beth Thompson and special friend Les Burns, and step-mother CJ Thompson; sister Megan (Greg) Bearbower; step-brothers, Scott and Skip Foos; step-sister Jenn Even; nieces Patience (Mark) Moyer, Ella Bearbower; step-nieces Piper Even, Danyelle Foos; step-nephews Vincent Even, Codi and Jakob Foos; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Thompson, and paternal grandparents Jens and Kathryn Thompson, and maternal grandparents Warren and Lois Feller and Dorothy Reynolds.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society or the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
