Nathan Groote

Nathan William Groote, 74, of Dike passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Cedar Stone Senior Living in Cedar Falls.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at Dike United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.

Nathan was born June 7, 1949, in Waterloo, the son of Roy and Berniece (Ross) Groote. He graduated from Dike High School in the class of 1967. He then went to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls and completed his bachelor’s degree at Mankato State in 1971. On Dec. 29, 1970, Nathan was united in marriage to Velda Fleshner at the Dike United Methodist Church. He farmed all of his life and worked as an accountant, primarily for Fisher Controls (Emerson Electric) in Marshalltown, but also for the Iowa Department of Revenue, Roskamp, Roller, Mills, and also Great Plains Bag. He was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Velda of Dike; a son, Kevin (Crystal) Groote of Dike; a daughter, Karen (Ryan) Stampe of Leighton; two sisters, Jean (Craig) Hemmen of Mesa, Ariz. and Joan (Denny) Dennis of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Margie Snittjer of Watertown, S.D.; and two aunts, Pat (Bob) Abels of Holland, and Marian Langenberg of Des Moines.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, and two nephews, Matt Hemmen and Scott Heisler.
