Bruce A. York

Bruce A. York, age 65, of Grundy Center, Iowa, was called home to his heavenly father early Saturday, June 22, 2024, while vacationing in Costa Rica with his wife Christine, granddaughter Addison, his brother and his family, and a long-time friend. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in rural Reinbeck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Bruce was born on September 3, 1958, to his parents Virgil and Patricia (O’Neil) York. He was raised in Moline, IL and graduated from Moline High School. He worked as a baker for Wonder Bread in Waterloo, Iowa, and retired after 38 years of faithful service to the company. In that time he attended the American Institute of Bakery and completed his associate's degree. Bruce was united in marriage to Christine Berry on August 12, 1978, and they welcomed their three children Melissa, Troy, and Brian into their family.

Bruce was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved everyone he met with all his heart. Bruce loved spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and traveling the world. He was dedicated to providing the best life for his family. Bruce was tough as nails, and he always let you know if you needed to push harder. His generous personality put his family and friends above all else. He loved his kids with all his heart (even if he misspelled Melissa’s name on his tattoo.) and his true joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years Christine; children Melissa York, Troy York, and Brian York; grandchildren Avery, Aden, Addison, Autumn, and Bradley; siblings Barry York, Kristine (Harold) Long, Kolleen (Lucio) Rojas, and Bernard (Lilia) York; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Kathy, Brian, and Karen; and nephews Ryan and Daniel.
