ACKLEY – A straight set 25-20, 25-15, 25-11 victory was captured by Aplington-Parkersburg over the AGWSR volleyball team here Thursday in both teams' season opener.

The visiting Falcons pulled away late in the first game and then dominated the second and third sets for the sweep.

"I was really happy with how the girls came out and played," said A-P coach Jana Surratt. "The girls did a very good job of communicating with each other.

"We were passing well and that was the start to the offense. And then the girls did a nice job of hitting the ball," she added.

The Cougars had just three leads in the match and two came in the first game 2-0 and 5-4. The two were tied eight-all and AGWSR was still within striking distance down 12-10 when A-P uncorked an 8-2 run, building a 20-12 cushion behind three Ivy Nolte kills.
