AGWSR's Barrick on first team all-state

    Taryan Barrick, a sophomore on the AGWSR softball team, was named to the first team of the Class 1A all-state team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association in teams released last Friday.
   Cougars teammate Makenna Kuper was a second-team selection and AGWSR senior Alana Groninga received honorable mention.
   Barrick struck out 258 batters, the highest total in 1A this season, in 149 innings pitched. She allowed 22 earned runs and held opposing hitters to a .136 batting average with a 21-6 overall record.
   At the plate, Barrick contributed a .400 batting average with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and 35 runs batted in.
BCLUW's Ubben named second-team all-state in 2A
   BCLUW senior Samantha Ubben was named to the second team of the Class 2A all-state team as selected by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association in a Friday press release.
   Comet teammate Jordyn Beeghly was a third-team selection on the 2A team, while BCLUW's Leah Yantis and Jenna Willett received honorable mention.
   Ubben had a 19-5 record in the pitcher's circle this season, allowing 21 earned runs in 150 1/3 innings and striking out 199 batters. Ubben also batted .413 with eight doubles and 29 runs batted in.
