AGWSR's Heitland wins shot put at IATC Indoor

AMES – AGWSR junior Aiden Heitland won the Class 1A boys shot put at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Indoor Champions at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames on Friday, March 10.

Heitland’s best throw was 47 feet, 3.75 inches on his final throw of the day.

Kaden Abbas was the other medalist for the Cougars at the event, finishing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles finals. He qualified sixth in 9.16 and improved to 9.15 in the finals. Triston Miller of Columbus Community won in a blazing-fast 8.05.

Dike-New Hartford had two scoring relays with seventh-place finishes - the 4x100 relay of Nick Reinicke, Jerek Hall, Gus Varney and Jace Hall ran 45.83; the shuttle hurdle team of Jayce Jensen, Jack Hoehns, Jake Reicks and Trevor Folkerts finished in 38.53.

Reinicke added a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 44-6.5.

BCLUW finished 10th as a team in Class 1A with 25 points.

Individual medalists included Cayden White in the 800-meter run winning bronze in 2:07.28 and Tyler Bracy claiming a 5th-place medal in the long jump with a best leap of 18 feet, 8 inches.

The Comets cleaned up most in the relays, however. The 4x800 relay team of White, Kevin Hill, Cayden McLeland and Caiden Perry earned the bronze in 9:21.55. BCLUW also took fourth in the 4x400 relay, sixth in the distance medley and eighth in the 4x100.

KOCH LEADS GRUNDY GIRLS: The Grundy Center girls competed in the girls event on Thursday in Ames.

Allison Koch was third in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5-3. Carlie Willis added a 16th-place finish at 4-11.

The Spartans also had a scoring relay with Laney Dole, Ellery Luhring, Karlee Lynch and Grace Storjohann placing eighth in 10:21.97.

Storjohann added a 12th-place run in the 800 with a time of 2:30.28. The girls event was not divided by class as the boys was, pitting schools of all sizes against each other.
