AGWSR's Karsjens wins discus title; Grundy girls have busy Saturday

Nathan Karsjens already had the Class 1A state discus title in hand, but he had one more chance to throw, so he went farther to cap off his career for AGWSR on Friday, May 19.
Karsjens threw 169 feet, 11 inches to clinch the title, even though he had the title by one foot.
"Knowing going in (to my last throw) I knew whether I was going to win or not," Karsjens said, "and all the pressure was off so all I had to do was throw as hard as I could to improve on my last one.”
The discus title makes two championships for the Cougars after AGWSR throws teammate Caleb Meinders won the shot put title on Thursday. Meinders was 21st in the discus.
"It's the ultimate goal," Karsjens said of winning the title. "I always wanted to win a state championship. I wanted to win one in basketball the most, but to get one, is a reallly good feeling."

Grundy Center’s 4x200 relay team of Kyah Luhring, Brooke Flater, Landry Luhring and Hailey Wallis took sixth in the event in 1:49.62 on Friday in Des Moines. But this group is only getting started.
Saturday will be busy for Wallis, a finalist in the 100-meter dash who will also run with her teammates in the sprint medley to start the final day of state track and then will be one of the final schools on the blue oval this year as part of the 1A 4x400, qualifying with the fifth-best time in 4:12.46.
The Spartans are seeded fifth in the sprint medley, as well.
