All-state, all-district volleyball teams released
Dike-New Hartford senior Sydney Petersen was selected as the All-Class Player of the Year in the all-state volleyball teams released by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association last week.
The Wolverine libero, a University of Texas signee, was a member of the Elite All-State Team along with twin sister Baylee Petersen, who will continue her volleyball career at the University of Northern Iowa, and D-NH sophomore Morgan Weber.
The three D-NH players were also selected first team all-state in Class 2A. Madison Hedges and Amber Rickert were second-team 2A all-state selections for D-NH. Sydney Petersen was selected as the 2A player of the year and D-NH head coach Diane Harms was named coach of the year.
Grundy Center's Kylie Willis was also named to the all-state second team, with Spartan senior Landry Luhring earning honorable mention.
Sydney Petersen led the Wolverines with 4.23 digs per set and 56 ace serves with a .899 serving efficiency at the line.
D-NH was 50-3 overall in 2017 and won the Class 2A state title, the 13th volleyball championship in program history. Grundy Center finished 37-7, semifinalists in 2A.
IGCA releases all-district volleyball teams
Several area athletes were represented on all-district volleyball teams released by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association last week.
In Class 2A's Northeast District, Dike-New Hartford's Sydney Petersen, Baylee Petersen, Morgan Weber, Madison Hedges and Amber Rickert earned all-district status, along with Grundy Center's Emerson Kracht, Landry Luhring and Kylie Willis.
Dike-New Hartford head coach Diane Harms was named the district's coach of the year.
BCLUW junior Easton Swanson was an all-district selection for 2A's Central District.
