All-state volleyball: G-R's Wyatt, AGWSR's Smith on 1A top team

Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Ava Wyatt and AGWSR’s Brynn Smith were area volleyball players named to the first team of the Class 1A all-state teams released by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association on Tuesday.

Wyatt’s teammates Megan Cooley and Emma McClintock received second-team and honorable mention status, respectively. The Rebels finished as runners-up in Class 1A.

Smith’s younger sister, Trevyn Smith, earned second-team all-state honors.

Wyatt, a senior, led the team with 4.1 kills and 2.4 digs per set, as well as 53 ace serves on 90 percent serving efficiency.

Cooley, a senior, had 2.6 kills and 2.2 digs per set and led the Rebels with 68 total blocks and 51 ace serves.

McClintock, a senior, averaged 9.0 assists per set, tied for the second most in 1A and added 2.3 digs per set. She also set a single-game record in the 1A championship game with 57 assists.

Brynn Smith, in her senior year with AGWSR, was third in 1A with 4.3 kills per set.

Trevyn, the Cougars’ setter, averaged 7.1 assists per set in her sophomore season and added 1.3 kills and 2.1 digs per set.
