Area postseason baseball pairings

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released postseason baseball pairings for Class 1A and 2A competitors on Wednesday morning.
 
Postseason games for area teams in both classes begin on Saturday, July 13, with district semifinals all played on Tuesday, July 16 and district finals scheduled for Saturday, July 20. District champions advance to the substate finals, scheduled for Tuesday, July 23. Substate final winners advance to the state tournament.
 
The state baseball tournament will be played at Principal Park in Des Moines. Class 1A quarterfinals will be played on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27. Class 2A quarterfinals will all be played on Monday, July 29. Class 1A and 2A state semifinals are played on Thursday, August 1. All four classes play their championship games on Saturday, August 3.
 
AGWSR, BCLUW, Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Grundy Center compete in Class 1A, while Dike-New Hartford competes in Class 2A.
 

Class 1A District 5

AGWSR begins the postseason at top-seeded Saint Ansgar at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. The game will begin following the conclusion of North Butler vs. Clarksville, scheduled for a 5 p.m. first pitch. The Saints are currently 17-5 and ranked seventh in Class 1A by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IAHSBCA).
 
The winner of AGWSR's district quarterfinal will play either Rockford or Nashua-Plainfield in Saint Ansgar for a July 16 semifinal, following the conclusion of the first district semifinal.
 
The district final will also be played in Saint Ansgar on July 20.
 

Class 1A District 9

Gladbrook-Reinbeck opens postseason play at Alburnett against Maquoketa Valley at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.
 
The winner will play either top-seeded Alburnett or East Buchanan in a district semifinal at Alburnett on Tuesday, July 16, following the conclusion of the other district semifinal with a 5 p.m. first pitch. The Alburnett Pirates are currently 21-4 overall, ranked sixth in Class 1A by the IAHSBCA.
 
The district final will also be played in Alburnett on at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.
 

Class 1A District 11

Grundy Center hosts a pair of district quarterfinals on Saturday, July 13. Following the conclusion of Lynnville-Sully vs. Baxter at 5 p.m., the Spartans will play Colo-NESCO. Two other district quarterfinals will be played at Hudson, beginning with a 5 p.m. game between top-seeded Don Bosco and the winner of a play-in game between Dunkerton and Collins-Maxwell. At the conclusion of that game, BCLUW will play Hudson.
 
The winner of Grundy Center's district quarterfinal game will play at Hudson at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16. The BCLUW-Hudson winner will face either Lynnville-Sully or Baxter in the other district semifinal directly following the 5 p.m. game.
 
The district final will be played at Hudson on July 20.
 

Class 2A District 11

Dike-New Hartford is the top seed in District 11, receiving a bye to the semifinal round. The Wolverines, ranked third in Class 2A by the IAHSBCA, will play either South Hardin or Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in Dike on July 16. That game will begin following the conclusion of the other district semifinal beginning at 5 p.m.
 
The district final is also scheduled to be played in Dike at 7 p.m. on July 20. South Hamilton also received a bye into the semifinal round.
