Arndt new coach for G-R softball

Collin Arndt enters the Gladbrook-Reinbeck softball dugout as a relative outsider, but he arrives on the recommendation of some familiar G-R names.

Arndt, a junior at the University of Northern Iowa, is the latest head coach for the Gladbrook-Reinbeck softball program, with his first official game coming last Thursday against Class 1A No. 12 AGWSR in Gladbrook.

Arndt is a graduate of West Fork in Sheffield, but it was G-R alums and friends from school like Phil Zimmerman and Cameron Clark that encouraged Arndt to apply for the open softball job after Paula Kelley resigned from the position after her second season as head coach.

With some previous experience coaching with middle school softball players, Arndt felt comfortable applying for some extra experience.

"Coaching has a lot to do with the little things," Arndt said. "I'd love to stick around the area [after graduating from UNI], maybe find a job around this area and keep coaching."
