Two longtime instructors with over 40 years of combined service to BCLUW will accept early retirement packages at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

Business Education teacher Jim Moeller (17 years) and Physical Education teacher Randy Omvig (24 years) plan to call it quits after lengthy tenures with the district, and the school board voted unanimously to approve the moves at Monday morning’s regular meeting.

“I would like to thank the school district for all of their support and the honor of educating so many wonderful students over the last 24 years,” Omvig wrote in his letter of resignation.

Moeller, who in addition to teaching serves as a yearbook adviser, student council adviser and junior class sponsor, wrote that he plans to become a substitute in retirement and referenced his own Grundy Center roots in his letter to Superintendent Ben Petty.

“I will probably miss the people who I have come to know as friends and coworkers, but I also know that it is time to open a new chapter in my life,” Moeller wrote. “I have enjoyed every day that I have been here. I may have been a Spartan when I came, but I’m definitely leaving a Comet.”
