BCLUW board denies open enrollment request, approves fundraisers

The BCLUW school board denied two open enrollment out requests and approved the fundraisers for the 2019-2020 school year during a brief meeting on Monday evening at the elementary library.

According to Superintendent Ben Petty, both of the open enrollment requests were filed late without good cause, and both are on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). He added that he believed BCLUW could meet their needs, but he would consider changing his mind down the road if it was determined that the district couldn’t meet the needs of the students.

The board voted 6-0 (Mary Beth Neff was absent) to approve the fundraisers for the upcoming year, and board member Brian Feldpausch, who has questioned the proliferation of fundraisers in the past, asked if there would be any additional ones coming to the board later in the year. According to the board packet, there are currently a total of 15 fundraisers.
