BCLUW board makes reviews summer projects, makes hire to replace Hoy

The BCLUW board of education discussed some summer projects and hired a replacement for longtime facilities director Barry Hoy at last Wednesday morning’s regular meeting.

Two of the biggest needs for the district involve athletics: Activities Director Lynn Silver is looking at quotes for a new scoreboard in the gymnasium as the current one is too old to order replacement parts for, and he reported that Iowa Direct Supply provided a $19,000 quote. Board members also mentioned potentially selling advertising on the new scoreboard, which many area schools already do, and having a flip screen.

The track will require approximately $41,000 in cracking and sealing repairs and resurfacing, and a motion from Lynne Kock to move forward with that process passed unanimously. New sinks and cabinets in several classrooms were also discussed as a need. The total cost of that project would be $63,000 over three years, and Ty Brekke of Union would build and install them. A motion to approve those repairs also passed unanimously.
