At Monday night’s regular meeting, the BCLUW school board approved its budget calendar for 2016 and received updated valuation information for the district in all three of the counties it covers.

According to the calendar, which was approved by a 6-0 vote (Lynne Kock was absent), the board will review the fiscal year 2016 budget at its next meeting in February, receive a preliminary presentation of the FY2017 budget at its March meeting along with a summary of potential legislative action that could affect the budget and approve the budget at its April 11 meeting. All school budgets in Iowa must be submitted to county auditors by April 15, and any budget amendments (if necessary) must be in to the auditors by May 20.

Superintendent Ben Petty also provided the board with some information on the total valuation of the school district. Valuation in Grundy County, at $123,053,822 was actually down almost $3,000,000 from last year, when the number was $126,039,114. Valuations in Marshall County ($79,155,994, up from $73,152,297 last year) and Hardin County ($38,501,232, up from $36,574,190 last year) were both up slightly, and the overall valuation of the district rose from $235,765,601 a year ago to $240,711,048. With just over $6 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funding included, the district’s total valuation is now $246,823,446.
