BCLUW's Garber signs with ISU

CONRAD –BCLUW senior Jack Garber is making his dreams come true.

Garber signed a National Letter of Intent to run track at Iowa State University here Thursday.

The Garbers are die-hard Cyclone fans, and getting the opportunity to wear a cardinal-and-gold uniform brings a smile to his face.

“It has always been my top choice. It is hard to say I even thought about this as an option because it was so far out there. It is definitely a dream come true. This means a lot being a Cyclone growing up and always following their athletics,” Garber said.

Hurdles are Garber’s specialty. He is among the state leaders in both the 110-meter high hurdles and 400-meter hurdles and is a member of the Comets’ shuttle hurdle relay team.

Garber enjoys the challenge of the hurdling races. “It is a challenge and something a lot of people don’t want to do. You have to be a pretty good sprinter to begin and have to perfect your technique. It takes a lot of things to do the race and I enjoy perfecting my technique.”

Garber has captured six gold medals in six outdoor meets this spring in the 110 highs and started with a bang, breaking the school and his older brother Will’s record at the BCLUW Earlybird, running 14.47. He then broke his own record at the Comet Relays, going 14.41. Garber also won the 60-meter hurdles at the UNI and ISU Indoor meets earlier this spring.
