Betty was born Nov. 25, 1926 to Mac and Ruby (Lighter) Hughes at the family farm in rural Conrad.  She graduated from Conrad High School with the class of 1944 and was employed with the Price Control and Rational Office during World War II.  Betty was united in marriage to Richard V. Lynch of Beaman on Sept. 15, 1946 at the Alice Church of God.  Farming kept them busy until retirement where they moved from the family farm into a wonderful neighborhood in Conrad. They were blessed with three daughters, three granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters.  Their response to the inevitable question ‘did you ever wish for a boy,’ was ‘no,’ we always wanted three girls, Linda, Kathy and Connie.

Betty was a member of the Beaman United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Beaman American Legion Auxiliary, the Treasure Seekers Antique Club, and the Village and Vale Club.  She and Richard enjoyed many years of travel, antiquing, and attending BCLUW, Cyclone and Hawkeye sporting events.  Betty especially enjoyed her hobby of creating and painting ceramic dolls, in addition to many volunteer efforts.

Betty is survived by her, son-in-law Gary Mugge of Beaman; two daughters; Kathy Elliott of Branson, Mo., Connie (Keith) Schleisman of Kieler, Wis., three granddaughters; Stacy Mugge, Loveland, Colo., Shelley (Randy) Schafer of Independence, Iowa, Megan (Randy) Stiles of Boone, two great-granddaughters; Anah (David) Cosner of Colfax, Kathryn Stiles of Boone, a sister, Sara Thatcher (Westbrook Acres, Gladbrook), and her many cherished nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, a daughter, Linda Mugge, her sibling sisters and brothers (and their spouses) Lillian Pabst, Irene Long, Dora Osborne, and Margaret Zorn; Laurence, Jack, and Donald, as well as six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law (and spouses) of Richard.
