The period to file paperwork for school board candidacy is officially underway in Iowa as of July 10, and several seats will be up for grabs at each of the five Grundy County districts. A list of the candidates up for re-election is below, and not all of them have announced whether or not they will run for another term.
AGWSR
In the AGWSR district, a total of three members are up for re-election in 2017: Board President Brian Johnson of district two, Pat Ubben of district one and Anthony Sillman of district 11.

BCLUW
At BCLUW, board members LJ Kopsa of Beaman, Lynne Kock of Beaman and Eric Engle of rural Marshalltown are up for re-election after serving four-year terms. All board members in the district are elected on an at-large basis.

Dike-New Hartford
At Dike-New Hartford, the incumbents are President Tom Lizer in district three (Dike), Meinard Koop of district one (New Hartford) and Christa Lotts (at-large).

Gladbrook-Reinbeck
Obviously, the biggest item on the ballot for G-R voters is the matter of the proposed dissolution of the district, but there are also four seats up for election: those currently held by Doug Rowe of Gladbrook, Josh Hemann of Reinbeck, Rod Brockett of Reinbeck and Suzie Petersen of rural Gladbrook. All seats in the district are voted for on an at-large basis.

Grundy Center
In Grundy Center, the seats of board president Brent Ascher, Ron Saak and Chad Mackie are up for grabs. The five-member board is elected on an at-large basis.
The deadline to file paperwork and gather the required amount of signatures for a candidacy is August 3.
