GRUNDY CENTER - As local daycares take on more new youngsters and the wait list for preschool spans three to four years, the City of Grundy Center is faced with the ever growing need for preschool and child care services in town.

In an effort to address the needs of families and children in the community, the city is taking a step towards action.During their Monday night meeting, the council voted unanimously to hire 571 Polson Development, LLC, to assist in a plan for the renovation of the old upper elementary building.

This renovation - which is roughly estimated to cost around $2 million - would make much-needed improvements to the building, and create more space for preschool and other child services at the facility. The cost of the renovation would largely be covered by $1 million in potential historic tax credits and $500,000 from a private donor. The remaining $500,000 would need to be secured through fundraising or other methods.
