City increases pledge to GC Chamber-Main Street

During their meeting on Monday night, the Grundy Center City Council approved a $35,000 pledge to the newly combined Grundy Center Chamber-Main Street organization - a $10,000 increase from the previous years pledge.

After becoming a combined Chamber-Main Street organization at the start of the year, representatives from the organization addressed the council last month to ask for an additional $10,000 for this years pledge, due to an increase in operating costs and funding for additional promotion and events with the addition of the Chamber workload.

During this week’s meeting, representatives were back to answer any questions about the pledge request and provide additional details to the council.

“Previously, the Chamber took in private dues from local businesses, but as a 501(c)3 we can’t take dues - we have to have pledges - and when you look at additional costs for this year, we’ll have more expenses with adding the events, promotion and other things the Chamber previously did,” said Keely Harken, who is on the Chamber-Main Street Promotion committee.
