City reduces tree dump hours

GRUNDY CENTER - After ongoing issues of trash and other non-complying items being left at the local tree dump site, the City of Grundy Center has changed the hours for the site.

While the tree dump was previously open from dawn until dusk for citizens to use, the site will now be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

GC Public Works Director Dan Bangasser says the issue has been going on for some time.

“We’ve fought this for some time,” he said. “We put cameras up last fall, and that helps but doesn’t completely stop the issue. This is an ongoing thing so we’ve had to make some changes.”

In a Facebook post last week, the Grundy Center Police Department reported that there were five different incidents the prior week of people leaving items not meant for the tree dump. People have left tires, building materials and other garbage at the site, leaving it to the city to dispose of.
