Conrad council accepts water main loop bid

The Conrad city council accepted a $179,405 water main looping bid from Vieth Construction of Cedar Falls during its regular meeting last Thursday night.

The city received two bids total (the other came from Hatch Grading and Contracting of Dysart), and the low bid came in well under the engineer’s estimate ($220,000). Vieth will install an eight-inch loop on the south side of town. After a brief public hearing, the council voted unanimously to accept the bid.

Councilman Todd Schnathorst reported that he recently met with a developer from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area and had a productive conversation about the plans to develop lots on Main Street and Lillian on the north side of town across the street from the swimming pool. So far, estimates have pegged the total number of lots in the eventual development at anywhere between 26 and 40.
