Grundy County Conservation Director Kevin Williams announced his department’s plans to purchase approximately 37.38 acres of land between Grundy Center and Morrison near the Pioneer Trail during Tuesday morning’s regular supervisors meeting.

“We’re excited about adding to the county’s wildlife sites,” Williams said. “I think it’ll be a nice addition.”

The county will purchase the land, situated on the north side of Highway 175 just north of a Heartland Co-op bulk site and currently valued at $70,521 according to the Beacon website, from Mike Freed. It borders Black Hawk Creek and is also located near the Wolfe Family Preserve.

Williams called the deal “a shook hands agreed upon thing,” but the supervisors did not formally give him approval to sign the agreement because it had not yet been presented to them. The board will likely grant Williams clearance at a future meeting once an official agreement is presented and placed on the agenda.
