Country up-and-comer Cody Hicks headlines Felix Grundy Days

A rising star in the ranks of the Iowa country music scene is the headliner for this year’s Felix Grundy festival in Grundy Center.

Cody Hicks, who hails from Montezuma, first entered the public consciousness in 2015 with his summer anthem “In the Morning,” an ode to all-day hedonism on the Fourth of July, and an accompanying video, which was viewed over 100,000 times on Facebook. Its success catapulted his next video, “Left Turn,” to even greater heights: the song pays homage to stock car racing and has racked up nearly 250,000 views. Other popular cuts include “Aw Girl,” “Country Girl,” and “Lookin’ at the Stars,” and Hicks and his band play a host of country, rock and pop covers during live shows.

“Modern country” and “bro country” are both accurate descriptors of Hicks’s music, and he’s spent the last decade in various bands traversing across the state and playing it for anyone who would listen. The band, comprised of Hicks, Trevor Parrish, Nate Lenz, Matt Vavroch and Coleton Tompkins, recorded its first album, “Gettin’ Our Feet Wet,” in Nashville and has received high praise since its release in 2015.
