D-NH football stifles Falcons (PHOTOS)

DIKE – Lightning, then thunder.

Cade Fuller, then Cade Bennett.

Fuller showed the flash of his versatile athleticism and Bennett and the Dike-New Hartford offensive line rumbled through Aplington-Parkersburg, part of a 40-6 rout in Dike on Friday night.

Bennett led the way for the D-NH (2-0) ground game with 21 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Fuller added an 87-yard punt return and a 35-yard fumble return for scores as the Wolverines asserted themselves in all facets.

"Offense, defense, special teams, we got beat in all of those tonight," A-P head coach Alex Pollock said. "On both sides of the ball, [D-NH] owned the line of scrimmage."

The Wolverines' lead was 17-6 heading into the second half, and A-P forced a three-and-out on the first second-half drive. The Falcons advanced the ball to Dike's 21-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.

From there, D-NH plunged the dagger, an 11-play, 11-run drive that chewed five minutes of clock in the third quarter, with Bennett's number being called nine times for 51 yards, including the five-yard touchdown with 1:53 left in the third and a commanding 24-6 lead.

"That drive in the third quarter was a thing of beauty," D-NH head coach Don Betts said. "We've got athletes all over the place, we can make big plays, but to win football consistently, you have to be able to run the football and stop the other guys from running it. We've got guys up front that we believe in and we wanted to establish the run."

Fuller salted the wound on the next A-P drive, coming up with the ball when D-NH knocked it loose from Carter Cuvelier on a rush attempt and taking it back 35 yards to the end zone.

"That's a wildcard," Betts said of Fuller. "He does so many things, you can put him in so many positions. He's one of those guys you hate to play against but love to have on your team."
