DIKE – Dike-New Hartford softball was aggressive in a 14-4 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg in Game 1 of an NICL East doubleheader on Friday night, but the Falcons answered with a 7-6 win in Game 2, holding off a late Wolverine rally as D-NH split with the Falcons at Dike-New Hartford High School.

The Wolverines scored two runs in the seventh and had the potential tying run at second with one out, but A-P's Makenna Brouwer made a nice catch on a pop fly to shallow center for the second out and Falcons pitcher Hailey DeVries got the third out to end D-NH's late threat.

D-NH hit well in both games, but were able to get lots of timely hitting in Game 1. Abby Sohn drove in four runs and Taylor Kvale plated three runners, with each collceting three hits for D-NH. Lydia Huntington was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as well and Jillian Beuter batted 2-for-4 with a couple RBI.

That was a lot of run support for Abby Sohn, who struck out five with one walk and three earned runs on 10 hits in six innings in the circle in Game 1.

"We were very aggressive and did a great job on the bases in Game 1," D-NH head coach Rhandi Oelmann said. "We made them make plays that caused errors for them as well. Second game, we were just content to step in and take some swings and we really didn't push them like the first game."
