DIKE - More than a year and a half in the making, the brand new $1.5 million Dike Fire Station is finally complete, and members of the Dike Fire Department are ready to show off their new facility during an open house this Saturday during the annual Watermelon Days celebration.
Dike Fire Chief Marv Geiken says the department is thrilled with their new space.
“I think everyone’s really excited; it’s been a long time coming,” he said “Now, we have a lot more space which is one of the biggest things. We’ve got everything under one roof, where before we had things in different buildings, so this improves our response time and makes everything run a lot smoother.”
The new super steel structure is approximately 13,000 sq. ft. in size, and is located at the northwest edge of town.
The facility features a large garage that holds all seven of the department’s vehicles, along with the gator and boat. There are also bathroom facilities, a large meeting room and kitchen for department meetings, events and fundraisers.
Geiken says the new meeting and kitchen space will make the annual pancake breakfasts easier, and they will be able to use the space for more events.
“We’ve got a lot of room to grow and expand,” Geiken said. “We’re excited to show it off to the community, and to let everyone take a look at the new space.”
The open house will be held on Saturday, August 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
