The Dog Shop: Pet groomer opens doors in Grundy Center
GRUNDY CENTER – Not everyone is lucky enough to arrive at work every day and be greeted by a client who’s so happy to see them, that they are jumping up and down and yelping with joy. That’s a normal day for Chastity Bergman, who opened up her own pet grooming business, “The Dog Shop,” in the beginning of April.
Her first month at the shop has been a whirlwind, she said, with around four to six clients in each day.
“I’ve been doing really well since the minute I opened the door,” Bergman said. “Everyone tells me ‘we’re so glad you’re here, we really needed this service.’”
Although Bergman may be brand new to the business community in Grundy Center, she isn’t new to dog grooming.
For two years, she worked for a dog groomer in Hudson, which is when she first noticed how much she loved to work with dogs.
“Before, I had no idea I even liked dogs,” she said. “But when I worked in Hudson, I just noticed that you could go into work and be really grouchy or be having a bad day and you get there and you forget all about what was even wrong because the dogs are just so happy. I would have a day off or two days off and I would sit there and think ‘gosh I miss the dogs today.’”
And that feeling was one that resonated with Bergman.
After she was laid off from her grooming job, someone asked her why she didn’t just open up her own grooming business.
After some thought, she decided to go for it.
