DOT traffic study recommends downsizing G Avenue to three lanes

In an effort to curb speeding and soothe traffic flow through Grundy Center, the Iowa DOT has recommended a conversion to shrink G Avenue from a four lane roadway to a three lane roadway.

The recommendation was outlined in the results of a TEAP (Traffic Engineering Assistance Program) Study the DOT completed late last year, which noted that speed was a concern on G Ave., and suggested that a three lane conversion would slow down traffic and improve safety of drivers and pedestrians.

During their Monday night meeting, the Grundy Center City Council took time to discuss the recommendation from the DOT.

“One of the things that started the TEAP Study was the speeding issues on Main Street in the uptown area,” said Mayor Al Kiewiet. ““When we got the results back, their recommendation was not to lower the speed limit, but instead, they recommended this three lane conversion.”
