GRUNDY CENTER - More than two years in the making, the $1 million Downtown Facade Renovation project in Grundy Center is finally complete - giving the downtown district a historic makeover, with a mix of modern touches.

Last Thursday, representatives from the city and Grundy Center Chamber-Main Street joined with local building and business owners, citizens and architects and contractors involved in the project to hold a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the project’s completion.

“Today, we celebrate a significant milestone in Grundy Center: the completion of the Facade Improvement Project in Historic Downtown Grundy Center,” said Lisa Bienfang, Grundy Center Chamber-Main Street Director. “Over the last six months, ten buildings have been transformed and brought new energy and heightened our sense of pride in our community.Today would not be possible without the vision, hard work, investment, patience and diligence of many people.”

Through a collaborative vision, the project was made possible by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Main Street Iowa, who provided $500,000 in funding through a Community Development Block Grant, along with the City of Grundy Center who committed $250,000 in funding for the project, and building owners, who provided 25 percent of the funding to match the City’s contribution.
