Elizabeth “Ann” Carnes

Elizabeth “Ann” Carnes, 89 of Conrad, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26 at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25 at First Presbyterian Church in Conrad.

Ann was born April 23, 1934, to Everett and Elizabeth (Fiscus) March in New Providence. She graduated from Conrad High School in 1952. Ann was united in marriage to Herschel Carnes on May 26, 1956, at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad.

In her early years, Ann was employed with Belz Company’s Conrad Elevator. She went on to have a 35-year career with Midwest One Bank, formerly First State Bank, as a bookkeeper. Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. It was there that her, Herschel, Lynette, and Lori were all baptized on the same day.

She was also an elder, member of the First Presbyterian Women, served on the funeral lunch committee, and was the church treasurer. Ann was a member of the Conrad American Legion Auxiliary, served on the Conrad Museum Board and Oakview Nursing Home Board. She was very proud to have been the Oakwood Ladies Golf Champ in 1971.

Ann will be missed by two daughters; Lynette (Michael) Purvis of Conrad, Lori Carnes of Mediapolis, two granddaughters; Meridith Thomas and Michelle (Chris) Heasley, four great grandchildren; Kaylee, Lucas, Karli and Owen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel, a sister, Priscilla Burris and her parents.
