Ethel Lucille Buskohl

Ethel Lucille Buskohl, 99, of Holland, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.  Services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church PCA in Holland, Iowa with visitation one hour prior to services.  Private family burial will be held.  With honor, Adams Celebration of Life is serving the family. 

Ethel was born on November 26, 1925, to Pete and Dena (Eckhoff) Groen in Butler County, Iowa. She spent her first 8 years in and around Shell Rock, Iowa. In January 1934 her mother passed away leaving behind her husband and 12 children. In the summer of 1934 Ethel came to the Holland area to live in the home of Will and Carrie Tack who raised her and her sister Marlys. She graduated from the Grundy Center High School and taught in country school for 2 years. On December 14, 1945, she was united in marriage to Bernard Buskohl. 

Ethel was a faithful housewife, always helping on the farm wherever she was needed. She was a care giver, always there for her husband, her children and any other family member or friend. She never wanted to be the center of attention. She loved spending time with her family and helping to care for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bible study was a very favorite pastime. Even at age 99 she still attended a Bible study group at her nursing home. She and Bernie loved to travel and spent a great deal of time visiting with family and friends. 

Ethel is survived by her children: Shirley (Shelby) Luwe of Grundy Center, Betty (Charles) Kruse of Holland and Kenneth (Sharlene) Buskohl of Grundy Center; 5 grandchildren Lori Kruse, Laci (Nathan Kappel) Murra, Craig (Jamie) Buskohl, Jody (Carter) Moore and Kyle (Katie) Buskohl; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bernard, her 5 sisters; Ruth (Clarence) Ellerman, Ione (Don) Gosch, Marlys (Verlyn) Schrage, Dorothy (Melvin) Brocka, and Beulah (Gerald) Vetter; her 6 brothers; Wilbur (Leona) Groen, Arthur (Madelene) Groen, Irvin (Doris) Groen, Raymond (Annette) Groen, Marvin (Darlene) Groen, and Bernard Groen.
