GRUNDY CENTER – Class 2A's top-ranked Grundy Center girls basketball team put together two big quarters at the start of Saturday's game with BCLUW, finishing the night as 59-36 winners against the Comets.

Hailey Wallis led the Spartans with 19 points, Brooke Flater added 14 points and Kylie Willis had 10 points. Katie Thompson had eight for the Comets and Bailey Ashton, Madison Ubben and Jaelyn Allen all kicked in six points each.

The first half was nearly flawless for the Spartans, hammering home a rebounding advantage in addition to the usual defensive pressure prowess.

When the dust settled at the end of the first 16 minutes, Grundy Center was in command, 43-15.

"Great first half," Willis said. "We put the pressure on the ball, got a lot of steals, and that transitioned into some easy shots for us."

Grundy Center went on a 21-3 run between the first and most of the second quarter to really stretch the game open. The Spartans improved to 14-0 overall and are 9-0 at the top of the NICL West.
