Five girls on all-state teams
The following girls from the Register area were selected to all-state basketball teams released by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and Iowa Girls Coaches Association on Tuesday:
Class 2A
Payton Petersen, Dike-New Hartford: The dynamo sophomore was a first-team selection by both the IPSWA and IGCA and was the 2A all-tournament team captain for the state champion Wolverines. She averaged 18 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, including 4.4 offensive rebounds per game, the second-best mark in that stat among 2A players. She also had 2.9 steals and 1.1 assists per game.
Ellie Knock, Dike-New Hartford: Knock earned second-team recognition from the IPSWA and IGCA. In her junior season, Knock had 10.7 points and 5.0 rebounds on average and added 1.8 steals and 1.7 assists per game. She led the Wolverines with 34 made 3-pointers.
Lainy Thoren, Grundy Center: Thoren, a senior, was honored with third-team all-state status by the IPSWA. Thoren led the team in per-game averages for points (12.1), rebounds (6.3), assists (3.5) and blocks (1.3) and also averaged 2.2 steals per game.
Sophia Hoffmann, Dike-New Hartford: Hoffmann, a senior, was named to the third team of the IGCA all-state teams. She led 2A with 6.5 assists per game, and added 5.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game for the Wolverines.
Class 1A
Allison Engle, BCLUW: The Comet senior was acknowledged on the third team of the IPSWA list. She led the Comets with 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.
