The former Grundy Center Motors building is getting a makeover, and will soon be transformed into a mini business complex, thanks to the handiwork of local entrepreneur Vern Folkedahl.

The building - which is located at 1309 G Avenue - will soon be home to three different local businesses including a small engine repair shop, an upholstery shop and an ice cream shop.

Folkedahl, who worked for the city for over 25 years and also runs his own plumbing business in town, says he was looking for something to keep him busy after retiring, when he landed on this venture.

“It’s an excellent property, and I couldn’t just let it sit empty,” Folkedahl said. “I had a lot of ideas for it, but decided it would be a good spot for some local businesses to have a visible place right along Grundy’s main road. It’s important to give people a chance and an opportunity to expand or start their own business, so that’s what I’m doing here.”
