Frederick Furniture announces store closing

Longtime employees and members of the Frederick family say ‘Goodbye’ to the community and reflect on memories 
GRUNDY CENTER – After over 80 years of doing business in Grundy Center, Frederick Furniture has announced that it will be closing its doors.
The exact closing date has not yet been determined, but the store is currently in midst of liquidating all inventory in preparation for the closing.
According to management, the decision was made after owner Craig Frederick, son of Frederick Furniture founder Howard Frederick, passed away in February of 2014, virtually ending the family retail legacy that first began back in 1936.
As one of the oldest – if not the oldest – independently owned businesses in Grundy Center, Frederick Furniture has seen many changes in the industry and business landscape over the years, surviving and thriving through them all. But, after over 80 years, the time has finally come for the business to say ‘goodbye.’
To honor Frederick Furniture for their commitment to the community over the last 80 years, The Grundy Register asked a few of Frederick Furniture’s longtime employees, as well as Craig Frederick’s daughter Pamela Templeton, to share some of their best memories at Frederick Furniture, which are recounted below.
