Fun-filled festivities for all at Dike Watermelon Days

DIKE- Summer festival season isn’t over yet, as Dike’s Watermelon Days celebration is right around the corner this coming weekend.
This year’s events will include many of the old favorites as well as an open house to commemorate the completion of the multimillion-dollar new fire station and the support of the community in voting overwhelmingly to approve a bond issue for the project.
The popular softball tournament will also be back this year, and the Fredsville Lutheran Church will host a community worship service in the park followed by a meal on Sunday morning.
D-NH football coach Don Betts is arranging a football garage sale at the school on Saturday afternoon featuring trophies and memorabilia, and the fireworks will begin at 9:30 Fun-filled festivities for all at Dike Watermelon Days p.m. on Saturday night.
Along with some new events, the old favorites like the 5k run in the morning, the pedal tractor pull for kids, the afternoon parade on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and the free watermelon afterwards are back, as is the Touch a Truck for kids—which will include a fire truck, sheriff’s patrol vehicle, ambulance, bus, golf cart, backhoe, tractor and combine.
The Dike Public Library will also be hosting kids events throughout the day on Saturday. And for adults who want live music and drinks, the two bars in town will provide them: Slice is hosting the Wicked Andersons on Friday night, and Lynch’s will have the Chocolate Crackers on Saturday. Other adult-oriented events include karaoke and the annual beanbag tournament.
