G-R’s Kiburis earns 3rd-team all-state spot

Gladbrook-Reinbeck sophomore William Kiburis earned third-team all-state status on the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association’s Class 1A boys basketball team released Tuesday.

Kiburis averaged 19.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game, starting in all 21 games for the substate finalist Rebels.

He was one of four sophomores selected to the Class 1A team, along with second-teamers Blaise Porter of New London, Keaten Bonderson of Gehlen Catholic and Tate Haughenbury of North Linn. He also received the Outstanding Player award in the All-NICL West teams released earlier this season.

Tucker DeVries of Waukee was selected as Mr. Iowa Basketball 2021. DeVries is a Drake University commit, where he’ll play for his father and Drake head coach Darian DeVries, former Aplington High School standout.
