GC Chamber, Main Street talk merger

Some big changes could be coming to the Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Grundy Center organizations, as the two groups are in talks about a possible merger to create a combined Chamber-Main Street organization.

The Board of Directors for the Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce will meet at Kling Memorial Library at noon on Tuesday, November 13 to vote on the Chamber’s dissolution and discuss the proposal to merge with Main Street Grundy Center.

Chamber Board Chairperson Brittany Liekweg says the Board sees many benefits to a joint Chamber-Main Street organization.

“We have a lot of people who are confused about what the difference is between what the Chamber does and what Main Street does, and we do have some cross-over, so we think this will be a better and more efficient use of resources,” she said.

In a letter sent out to Chamber members last week, the board explains their move towards a dissolution and merger with Main Street Grundy Center. The letter states that the concept of a merger has been studied by the boards of both organizations for more than a year and has resurfaced with the recent resignation of former Chamber Director Laura Cahalan.
