A Grundy Center man is facing five felony charges after allegedly physically attacking city police officer Justin Fox, taking his Taser and attempting to use it against him at a residence on 8th Street two weeks ago.

According to a criminal complaint dated October 17, Officer Fox responded to a call for service at around 10:20 p.m. on the night of October 15 and upon his arrival witnessed 30-year-old Jeffrey David Rash assaulting a family member inside the home.

Mr. Rash allegedly became even more combative as he struck Officer Fox in the head and kicked him multiple times and twisted his fingers while attempting to grab the Taser, which he briefly obtained. Fox and the other alleged victim were eventually able to reclaim the Taser. The complaint adds that Rash used “aggressive and violent epithets” throughout the confrontation.

After other officers arrived to get the situation under control, Officer Fox was transported to Grundy County Memorial Hospital and treated for rib contusions, possible hairline fractures and wall thickening of the descending colon on his right side.

The next day, a warrant was issued for Rash’s arrest on charges of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations—Use or Display of a Weapon, Disarming a Peace Officer, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations—Intent of Injury, Interference with Official Acts—Dangerous Weapon, Interference with Official Acts Inflicting Serious Injury, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Domestic Abuse Assault—Injury or Mental Illness First Offense.
