GC School board votes against early retirement policy

GRUNDY CENTER - During their meeting last week, the Grundy Center School Board voted 4-1 against the first reading of an early retirement policy.
Currently, the district does not have an early retirement policy, and they did not have one in place last year either, according to Superintendent Neil Mullen.
Mullen reminded the board during the meeting that their early retirement policy has expired, and wanted to know if the board would like to renew it or make changes to it.
Per board discussion, Mullen will be contacting other districts in the area to see if they are offering an early retirement policy, and what they are offering.
“Right now it looks like most aren’t offering one this year,” Mullen said, adding that he would continue to survey area districts and present the board with more information at the next meeting.
The board’s previous early retirement policy would have applied to full-time licensed employees, including administrators, scheduled to work at least 25 hours per week during the school year and who are currently performing their assigned duties within the district.
