GRUNDY CENTER - The Grundy Center Police Department is warning local business owners in Grundy Center and Grundy County of a new scam, in which an advertising company is trying to sell advertisements to local business owners.
According to the GCPD, a Texas-based company called Universal Adcom - which has been known to engage in fraudulent practices - has been targeting businesses in Grundy Center, along with businesses around the county and the nation in the attempt to sell fraudulent advertisements to them.
This company said the were working with the Police Dept. and the Grundy Center Chamber-Main Street, and both organizations have stated that they have no affiliation with Universal Adcom.
GCPD Police Chief Doug Frost said the company has been engaging in these calls nationwide, and that his department has already spoken to several business owners to warn them of the scam.
