Grassley: Budget issues to dominate remainder of session

GRUNDY CENTER — As the Iowa legislature enters its final weeks, its priorities are turning toward completing the budget. That was the word from Rep. Pat Grassley (R, New Hartford) Friday as he spoke at the Kling Memorial Library in Grundy Center Friday.
Grassley said the budget process is just getting started and that things could be a bit tighter than expected after the revenue generating conference came back with an estimate that legislators will have a little less new money to work with than they had anticipated.
“We have been working off having $200 million new revenue, that number is actually going to be around $180 million,” he said. “That’s not a terrible number, but we’re going to have to work within the guidelines to make sure we don’t spend more than we take in and are able to fund our commitments.”
