GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center Elementary students are lagging behind on reading scores. So says a key assessment that has landed the school on the No Child Left Behind Act’s School in Need of Assistance (SINA) list.
Grundy Center Elementary Principal Brian Sammons explained in his notes to the Board that the Elementary had been designated after the school did not meet any of its annual yearly progress goals in reading with any of its three groups with 30 or more students in the 2013-14 school year and that one group did not meet the progress goals last year. With the second year of not meeting progress goals came the designation.
Sammons said the school has begun working with the Iowa Department of Education through webinars and AEA to inform the public of the designation and create a plan for improvement, which is due Nov. 1.
