Grundy Center golf claims both NICL West titles

Grundy Center golf ended Monday with two NICL West titles and nine all-conference golfers after the girls won the team title in Eldora and the boys won in State Center.
 
The Spartan girls shot a 402 to win the team title by 34 strokes over runner-up BCLUW. AGWSR placed fourth with 479 strokes and Gladbrook-Reinbeck was seventh, shooting a 509.
 
Lauren Dirks earned meet medalist honors at Pine Lake, the Spartan junior finished her 18 holes with a 92. BCLUW's Jaelyn Allen was the runner-up medalist with a 99. Dirks, Lauren Krausman (99), Frannie Brown (105) and Josie Holke-Farnam (106) all earned NICL West girls all-conference recognition. Ella Murphy of G-R shot 112 for ninth place overall.

The Spartan boys won with a 325, followed by AGWSR shooting 357. BCLUW was fourth with a 385.
 
Ashton Martens led the Spartan boys as meet medalist with a 78 and Tanner Appel claimed the runner-up medal with an 81. Dexter Whitehill and Andy Cox shot 83 and Matthew Sternhagen turned in an 85 as the five lowest-scoring Spartans all earned NICL West all-conference honors. Travis Kuester was only two strokes back from the all-conference team with an 89.
 
AGWSR's Alex Hames, Ben Macy and Daniel Stahl snagged three all-conference spots for the Cougars. Hames was third overall with an 82, Macy shot an 85 and Stahl shot an 87. Riley Sicard added a 103 to AGWSR's team total.
