Hames top hoopster on All-NICL West boys team

AGWSR senior Alex Hames received Outstanding Player recognition on the All-NICL West boys basketball teams released Thursday, Feb. 21.
 
Hames scored a league-leading 18.9 points per game in 11 games of league play with 5.9 rebounds per game and 25 total assists. He made 26-of-60 3-pointers.
 
Joining Hames as unanimous first-team selections were Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Jackson Kiburis and the duo of Peyton Pope and Cam Bannister from NICL West champions West Marshall. G-R's Tyler Tscherter, AGWSR's Luke Starr and South Hardin's Cade Spieker were the other three selected to the first team.
 
Kiburis averaged 17.6 points and 6.8 rebounds, adding a NICL West-best 3.5 steals. Tscherter scored 14.6 points per game, in addition to a league-high 4.6 assists per game. Starr scored 15.8 points per game with 6.6 rebounds.
 
Area second-teamers included BCLUW's Jonny Neff and Jack Garber, Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Eli Thede and Tanner Appel and Joe Johnson from Grundy Center.
 
Honorable mention went to AGWSR's Tanner Weichers, BCLUW's Mason Yantis, Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Dylan Riffey and Grundy Center's Travis Kuester.
 
West Marshall coach Paul deNeui won the Coach of the Year honor. The Trojans finished 1.5 games ahead of AGWSR and South Hardin in the final standings.
