Several football athletes from the coverage area of The Grundy Register were honored with All-State recognition by the Iowa Newspaper Association as announced in a press release on Tuesday morning.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Thomas Mussig was named the captain of the Class A All-State team after the Rebels went 13-0 en route to a second-consecutive state championship. He's also the second-straight Rebel to earn the title of all-state captain after Colton Dinsdale received the honor in 2015.
Joining the Rebel linebacker on the first team were teammates Jacob Walters at offensive lineman, Hunter Lott at quarterback, Mason Skovgard at defensive line and Erik Knaack as a first-team defensive utility player.
G-R's Walker Thede and Parker Bown received third-team all-state honors at kicker and linebacker, respectively.
Grundy Center's Jordan Hook was named first-team offensive lineman and Bryce Flater was named a first-team offensive back.
Dike-New Hartford running back Trent Johnson was named first-team all-state, along with defensive lineman Ben Latusek. Nick Durnin was a second-team choice at linebacker and Clayton Mapel earned second-team distinction at defensive back.
In Class 1A, BCLUW linebacker Clay Silver was named to the second team. In the 8-Man class, AGWSR's Nathan Karsjens earned a first-team spot at punter and defensive lineman Caleb Meinders earned a second-team spot.
