INA all-state football teams released

The Iowa Newspaper Association's all-state football teams were released on Tuesday, with Class A team Gladbrook-Reinbeck leading Register-area schools with seven total all-state selections.
 
Walker Thede was a first team selection; Mason Skovgard, Gage Murty, Kyle Koppen and Keagan Giesking were all second-team picks and Matt Johannsen and Hunter Lott earned third-team distinction, along with Grundy Center lineman Jordan Hook.
 
Thede had 756 receiving yards and nine touchdowns and Johannsen accumulated 564 yards and a team-leading 10 touchdowns.
 
In Class 1A, BCLUW's Brad Barkema was selected first-team all-state. Barkema threw for 1,517 yards as the Comets quarterback with 11 touchdowns and had 40.5 total tackles with two interceptions for the BCLUW defense.
 
Class 2A was represented by three Dike-New Hartford players: Isaac Jorgensen, Chase Arends and Jake Landphair. Jorgensen earned a first-team spot while Arends and Landphair were second and third-team picks, respectively.
 
Jorgensen made 27 of 33 point-after attempts this season and made a 50-yard field goal in addition to kicking 31 of 46 kickoffs for touchbacks. He also hauled in nine catches for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Wolverines' passing game.
